It was the last week of December when I started working as a trainer at an up-in-coming commercial gym in the North East area. I had received my personal training certification that past November, so I was eager to get started. It is nerve-racking approaching members on the gym floor since you never know how they will react towards you. Preparing myself for the worst, I approached one woman at the pull-down machine. She was in her forties and around five feet six inches. I introduced myself and asked her about her goals. She wanted to lose forty pounds of fat, and her current trainer(who worked at another gym) was not having success with her. Almost Immediately, I asked her to give me chance to train her. She planned on transferring to another gym in a few months anyway so what did she have to lose. “Work with me for a few weeks. You can leave at anytime if I cannot help you.“I told her. She thought about it then accepted. We then walked over to the front desk to schedule a complimentary session right after the New Year. The first day was an assessment day yet it was metabolically challenging enough for her to book a second session. A few weeks turned into six weeks with a total fat loss of forty pounds.Normally I like elongate the training cycle, to keep the intensities at moderate levels, yet her program required higher intensities since I had only a short time with her. It was not easy to do yet she bought in and got results. The only problem she had was ordering new uniform kits for her work almost seemingly every week. The process was challenging yet seeing the weight drop as fast as it did motivated her to keep going. The strength, cardio, and nutrition component of the program work together for best results. Whether the program is altered depends on how the body react to stress factors during the training cycle. Therefore, each person has a personalised program to suit their needs. Perhaps, this was one of the proudest moments for me as a trainer. It brought tears to my eyes.
